Persante has always worked closely with the American Academy for Sleep Medicine (AASM), and we can help your sleep center stay up-to-date with AASM guidelines.
Over the past decade, guidelines from AASM to diagnose obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) have become more targeted. Today, the AASM considers polysomnography at an accredited sleep center the most comprehensive sleep diagnostic available, especially for patients with significant cardiorespiratory disease, neuromuscular conditions, chronic opioid medication use, or a history of stroke or severe insomnia.
Although at-home testing can help non-complicated patients gather sleep data, only polysomnography managed by a board-certified sleep medicine physician can assess respiratory effort and oxygen saturation and its impact on the body at large.
AASM recommends polysomnography for anyone with excessive daytime sleepiness and at least two of the following: habitual loud snoring, witnessed apnea or gasping or choking, or diagnosed hypertension.
We recommend sleep centers include additional metrics to polysomnography to maximize diagnosis. These services include (but are not limited to) end tidal volume, nocturnal blood pressure, and depression burden. Let us help you power your polysomnography capabilities and improve patient outcomes.
